Employing visual language cues from Islamic geometry and architecture, Jain cosmological maps and Buddhist sand mandalas, these drawings explore notions of permanence and impermanence within a system and structure. First started during the 2020 Shelter in Place directives, it seemed necessary to create order in a moment of chaos and confusion while simultaneously meditating on the truth that nothing is permanent.
The Cosmological Meditation drawings offer an opportunity to explore color and pattern with abandon allowing for risk taking at a time when almost everything felt “too risky.”
