Wanderlux

2009–2010

Wanderlux grew from Rath’s exploration of historical cabinets of curiosities. Rath’s cabinet, however, quickly lost the ability to contain her meticulously wrought natural forms, and the piece evolved into an visceral, luxurious, and sensual artistic landscape that evokes the discipline of a Japanese garden, the geometry of modernist construction and a love of the ornamental. Each one of Rath’s tightly controlled details carefully reflects our urge to contain and control nature. Materials/Size: maple, african blackwood, sterling silver, enamel, copper, ultrasuede, ivory, silk, squirrel, mink, gold leaf, pearls and smoky quartz. 8′ x 10′ x 5.5′
